The invention relates to a liquid-crystalline medium based on a mixture of polar compounds. Said medium is characterised in that it contains one or more compounds of formula (I), in which R<1>, L<1> and L<2> are defined as cited in claim (1). The invention also relates to the use of said compounds for electro-optical purposes, in particular TN monitor applications.
