A cooling system for a combustion engine (1) comprises a cooling circuit (2) with pump (10) and a heat exchanger (7) and by-pass (8) controlled by a heatable thermostat valve and a temperature-regulating control circuit (11), which changes the heating power if the rate of change of deviation of actual from ideal temperature exceeds a threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a control process for the above system.
