LIGHT AMPLIFIER AND OPTICAL REPEATING TRANSMISSION SYSTEM USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light amplifier with which the distance of short pulse and high bit rate optical repeating transmission is lengthened by dissolving the influence of S/N deterioration due to fluctuation in signal light intensity, and an optical repeating transmission system using the same.

SOLUTION: An optical fiber 204 has zero dispersion in the vicinity of a signal wavelength. A excitation source 202 has a wavelength set equal to the zero dispersion wavelength of the optical fiber 204. A multiplexer 203 multiplexes output light from the excitation source 202 and signal light and makes the multiplexed light incident on the optical fiber 204. An optical filter 205 takes out only the signal spectrum component from the output light of the optical fiber 204 and outputs it.
