PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pleat product capable of processing the fabric partially so that the boundary of the pleated part and non-pleated part becomes conspicuous, and a fabric for the pleat product used for the processing. SOLUTION: The method for producing the pleat product is provided by folding/overlapping a part of the fabric for pleat product by making one of warp yarns 2 and weft yarns 3 as good pleating yarns and others as hardly pleating yarns, along with a folding line 4 tilting against the warp yarns 2 and weft yarns 3, treating the pleat-processing up to the folded line 4 in the passing direction of the warp yarns 2 or the weft yarns 3, then opening the fabric 1 for the pleat product and washing. An effective pleat only in the passing direction of the good pleating yarns in one of the surfaces of the folded/overlapped part is formed, and the effective pleat is not formed in the passing direction of the hardly pleating yarns on another surface, and the pleat in the passing direction of the hardly pleating yarns disappears by the washing process to become a non-pleated part 5b, and the pleat formed in the passing direction of the good pleating yarns becomes a pleated part 5a firmly formed up to the folded line.
