PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly show the shortage of a recording area for recording information. SOLUTION: Prior to recording, the difference between the maximum recordable time length in a disk and the time length for which data are already recorded is calculated (S5). A scale is decided so as to make a reserved recording time length relatively agree with the time length of the calculated difference on a time base bar (S10). The amount of deficiency which shows the shortage of the time length of the difference relative to the reserved recording time length is calculated (S22). The image of the time base bar is prepared and an image which indicates the calculated amount of deficiency is prepared on the time base bar by using the decided scale, and these images are integrally displayed (S12, S24). Moreover, a present recording position and a time-shift reproducing position are also calculated (S16, S20) and these positions are displayed on the time base bar (S24). COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
