PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder wherein an amount of ink mist generated during a flushing operation is lowered and deposition due to solidification of specific ink is prevented by the flushing operation. SOLUTION: A first flushing mode to be executed in a capping condition or a second flushing mode to be executed in a condition that a capping means is opened is selectively executed. In the first flushing mode, the flushing operation wherein an ejection amount of ink drops is great is executed. There is provided a flushing amount counter for calculating the cumulative number of times of the ejection operations of the ink drops by the flushing. When the counted number of the counter reaches a predetermined value, an idling suction operation for sucking and discharging a part of the ink from an ink absorbing material is executed.
