PURPOSE: A ring-back tone service system using an SSP(Service Switching Point) and a method therefor, particularly for providing a specific sound source set by a callee to a caller without changing an operation profile for an exchange, are provided to reduce a huge expenditure for changing the operation profile. CONSTITUTION: An HLR(Home Location Register)(160) registers information on whether a mobile communication subscriber has subscribed for a ring-back tone service and information on CRBT(Customized Ring Back Tone) prefix to an SSP(110). When the HLR(160) receives a request for making a reference for a position of a callee from an O_MSC(Origination_Mobile Switching Center)(141), it receives a TLDN(Temporary Local Directory Number) through communication with a T_MSC(Termination_Mobile Switching Center)(142), checks whether the callee has been subscribed for the ring-back tone service, and transmits a response message for call connection to the SSP(110) to the O_MSC(141). The O_MSC(141) analyzes the response message, and when routing to the SSP(110) is recognized, the O_MSC(141) transmits an IAM(Initial Address Message) to the SSP(110). The SSP(Service Switching Point)(110) sets each call for an IP(Intelligent Peripheral)(120) and the T_MSC(142), responds to the O_MSC(142) about call setup, connects the O_MSC(142) and the IP(120), and then connects the IP(120) and the T_MSC(142). When a basic ring-back tone is detected within a pre-set reference transmission time. the IP(120) transmits a specific sound source to the O_MSC(141).
