PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metallocene compound which can prepare an olefin polymer having a high molecular weight with high polymerization activity, and a catalyst using the same. SOLUTION: The metallocene compound is represented by formula (1) (wherein M is a titanium atom, a zirconium atom or a hafnium atom; each X is a halogen atom or a 1-6C alkyl group; each R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-6C alkyl group or a 6-16C aryl group; each R<SP>2</SP>is a 2-(5-methyl)-thienyl group, a 2-(5-t-butyl)-thienyl group, a 2-(5-trimethylsilyl)-thienyl group, 2-(4,5-dimethyl)-thienyl group, 2-(5-phenyl)-thienyl group or a 2-benzothienyl group; Rs are identical to or different from each other and are each a 1-6C alkyl group or a 6-16C aryl group).
