<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unnecessary operation of a safety device when an overlap amount arises temporarily between an own vehicle and an object in the vehicle width direction. <P>SOLUTION: A traveling safety device for a vehicle detects a preceding vehicle V1 in the traveling direction of the own vehicle V with a radar device, calculates an overlap amountδ(the smaller one betweenδ(L),δ(R)) of the preceding vehicle V1 in the predicted course of the own vehicle V, and determines the possibility of contact of the own vehicle V with the preceding vehicle V1 when time where the overlap amountδis exceeding a prescribed value exceeds a prescribed value, then operates the safety device issuing an alarm or executing automatic control. Thus, even when the possibility of contacting the preceding vehicle V1 arises temporarily in association with a course change of the own vehicle V or the preceding vehicle V1, unnecessary operation of the safety device and an uncomfortable feeling given to a driver can be prevented. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
