ADAMANTANE DERIVATIVE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF

An adamantane derivative represented by the general formula (I): (I) [wherein X<1> and X<2> each represent a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, carboxyl group, an alkyl group, an alkoxyl group or an alkoxycarbonyl group, R<1> and R<2> each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, m and n each represent an integer of 0 to 15, and a and b each represent an integer of 0 to 10]; and a method for producing the adamantane derivative, which comprises reacting an alcohol containing adamantyl group with formaldehyde in the presence of hydrogen chloride. The adamantane derivative is novel, and is useful as a modifying agent and an agent for improving the resistance to dry etching for a photoresist resin in the field of photo-lithography, an intermediate for an agricultural chemical or a medicine, and an agent for use in various industrial products.
