The coupling (1,2) or model railway vehicles containing the couplings have an adjustment by which the coupling head (11) and or locking element (12) are relatively displaced. To uncouple the two couplings, the locking element of each coupling is lowered by the adjustment and at right angles to the vehicle base. The coupling has a housing (6) formed of two parts enclosing a hollow cavity and joined by a catch. A coupling head is especially pivot mounted on one of the two parts and consists of a looped coupling link (12).
