PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for machining a long workpiece, which reduces a floor space for installing it. SOLUTION: The apparatus 11 for machining the long workpiece 12 comprises an insertion section 13 for inserting the long workpiece 12, a carrying unit 14 for holding and carrying the inserted long workpiece 12, a machining robot 15 used as a machining means for forming a notch on the held long workpiece 12, and a dismounting section 16 used as a dismounting means for dismounting the long workpiece 12 from the carrying unit 14. The carrying unit 14 is provided with a disk 18 having a holding flange 20 on its peripheral edge so as to vertically stand.
