摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the incidence of malfunctions of a patch clamp device and obtain a high density of apertures for screening large numbers of candidate compounds with higher throughput than a manual approach, and to automatically and selectively monitor and modify the conditions at individual apertures. <P>SOLUTION: A biochip device 34 may include a substrate assembly 42 defining an array of apertures 50 and including a plurality of thin-film devices 54 configured to sense an electrical property of biological membranes that seal the apertures. The biochip device 34 also may include an electrical interface 60 coupled electrically to the thin-film devices and configured to electrically couple the thin-film devices to a control apparatus 36.
