PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a β-cryptoxanthin ingredient-containing extract which is used for oral ingestion, can be produced from an inexpensive raw material in a simple process at a low cost, and is not liable to give anxiety to consumers, even when added to a food, a drink, or the like, and to provide a functional food or drink compounded with the extract.

SOLUTION: This β-cryptoxanthin ingredient-containing extract used for oral ingestion and extracted from finely cut persimmon fruits, preferably peels, with ethanol. The extract is preferably the extract from which the smell of dried persimmon is removed. The extract is added to a food or drink so that the content of the β-cryptoxanthin ingredient in the food or drink is 0.1 to 50 mg/100 g.
