PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbent sheet material which is reduced in bulk falling and strength lowering when wetted, has a soft feeling, is reduced in surface sticking feeling, and is suitable for wet tissue paper, a wet wiper, etc. SOLUTION: In the water-absorbent sheet material, a web layer containing thermoplastic crimped fibers to which 0.01-0.2 mass% of a hydrophilic oil is adhered is laminated on at least one side of a cellulose pulp layer.
