A method for forming a relief image comprising a step for forming a powder layer by coating a substrate with slurry composed at least of powder of a metal or its oxide and a solvent and then drying it, a step for printing a pattern of binder by ink jet method onto a powder layer obtained in the powder layer forming step, and a step for forming a pattern by removing only such a part as the pattern of binder is not printed in the pattern printing step from the substrate, characterized in that the slurry being used in the powder layer forming step is produced by regulating the solid content of a collected matter of the powder of a metal or its oxide removed in the pattern printing step with the solvent.
