<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved bipolar tissue penetrating probe using electrosurgical energy to enhance tissue penetration and to cauterize tissue simultaneously with tissue penetration. <P>SOLUTION: The electrosurgical tissue penetrating probe (e.g., a trocar) for use with surgical procedures such as a laproscopy comprises a housing member 34 and a stylet 36 disposed in the housing member. The stylet 36 has an active electrode 42 disposed at a distal end to supply electrosurgical energy to the target tissue in contact with the stylet. The housing member 34 has a return electrode 48 disposed to form a part of a return electrical path to the supplied electrosurgical energy. The trocar 24 has an impedance monitor and an associated power regulating circuit to control the amount of electrosurgical energy supplied to tissues so that the measured tissue impedance is maintained within a preselected range. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
