PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide liquid metal gaskets used in vacuum tubes. SOLUTION: The liquid metal gaskets (30) have an internal plug (31) containing a liquid metal filling, a first seal (32) operatively connected with a first end part of the internal plug to isolate bearing assemblies (15a, 15b) from a vacuum vessel portion of the vacuum tube, and a second seal (33) operatively connected with a second end part of the internal plug to prevent particles and vapor (26) in a cavity (21) of the bearing assemblies from migrating into a vacuum area (22) of the X-ray tube. The first seal is preferably a contact seal, and the second seal is preferably a non-contact seal. The liquid metal gaskets may contain a liquid metal such as mercury, gallium or a gallium alloy. With the liquid metal gasket, it is possible to use an arbitrary suitable kind of lubricant for bearing assembly, for example, oils, powders, liquids, solids, wetting metals, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
