<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease deterioration in image quality by adaptively controlling an amount of code generation with respect to a pattern of an image and a change therein or the like and provide a margin to the amount of a code by efficiently reducing spatial redundancy. <P>SOLUTION: An adaptive filter 18 includes: a coefficient table memory 44 for storing a plurality (e.g., N being an integer) of filter coefficients F<SB>1</SB>, F<SB>2</SB>..., F<SB>N</SB>providing different filtering characteristics in a form of a coefficient table; a filter coefficient selection section 46 for selecting one coefficient (F<SB>K</SB>) among the filter coefficients F<SB>1</SB>, F<SB>2</SB>..., F<SB>N</SB>in response to a prescribed parameter; and a filter calculation section 48 for applying a prescribed arithmetic operation to a DCT coefficient from a DCT converter 16 by using the filter coefficient F<SB>K</SB>selected by the filter coefficient selection section 46. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
