PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrically assisted bicycle capable of being controlled freely to various loading states and used as a fitness machine. SOLUTION: A display controller 43 transmits loading level information selected by a user to a vehicle controller 31 by communication, the vehicle controller 31 changes a gear position with an automatic gearshift unit 34 in response to the loading level information received from the display controller 43, and transmits a result derived by multiplying a target regeneration current amount to a motor unit 50 by a ratio corresponding to the loading level by communication. The motor unit 50 controls regeneration current amount to a battery 14 by current feedback control using the target regeneration amount received from the vehicle controller 31 as a target value. Thus, by controlling the gearshift ratio and a regeneration brake, a load is charged to a treading torque, and fitness travel corresponding to a selection of the user is performed.
