PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save and manage recorded data such as image data in a mode easily understood by a user and suited to searching. SOLUTION: During the recording of a file in a recording medium, a serial number is obtained from the recording medium, the folder number of a recording folder in which the file is recorded is specified, history information correlating the serial number and the folder number is stored in an EEPROM, and a recording folder table 54T is formed. At starting the recording of a file in the recording medium, the serial number of the recording medium is obtained, searching is executed in the recording folder table 54T based on the serial number, and the recording folder indicated by the folder number of the history information coincident with the serial number is set as a recording side for newly recording a file.
