PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a cellulose ester film suitable as a protective film for the polarizing plate of a liquid crystal display device (LCD), capable of enhancing productivity such as higher speed film formation/high concentration of a cellulose ester dope or the like without bringing about foreign matter trouble using filter paper characterized in high void/small collecting particle size in the filtration of the cellulose ester dope to realize high productivity. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the cellulose ester film by a solution casting film forming method using a cellulose ester dope after filtered using filter paper, the filter paper has a void ratio of 76-95% and a collecting particle size of 0.5-5μm and the time from casting to peeling is set to 30-100 sec. The temperature of the dope at the time of filtration is 25-50°C and the concentration of the solid component of the dope (the weight ratio of the cellulose ester to the sum total of the weight of the cellulose ester and the weight of the whole solvent) is preferably set to 10-25%.
