PURPOSE: An expansion space-securing device for securing an expansion space of the end side of an upper structure of a bridge and an expansion space-securing construction method are provided to prevent end failure of the upper structure and structure failure of a pier or an abutment. CONSTITUTION: In an expansion space-securing device(10) for securing an expansion space of the end side of an upper structure(1) of a bridge, a horizontal moving hydraulic jack is installed while a separable horizontal moving support bracket(20) is installed to the end of the upper structure of the bridge installed to a pier or an abutment(2). A stretching hydraulic jack(70) is installed while a bridge stretch support bracket(40) is installed to the pier or the abutment. A sliding bearing part(50) is installed between the stretching hydraulic jack and the upper structure of the bridge and thus the expansion space for movements of the upper structure of the bridge is secured.
