WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEXER/DEMULTIPLEXER, AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In a conventional method to manufacture a plurality of filters having different transmission center wavelengths, a plurality of substrates is required. However, a plurality of photonic crystals 12a to 12d having different transmission center wavelengths is manfactured on a single substrate 11 in a one batch using a spattering device and a small wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer 10 is obtained. The size of the multiplexer/demultiplexer 10 is further reduced by arranging lens sections 15-2 to 15-5 and optical fibers 14-2 to 14-5 on only one of the surface side 11a of the substrate 11 to receive signal light beams passed the crystals 12a to 12d. Since wavelength multiplexed signal light beams are made incident on the photonic crystal 12a from another surface 11b of the substrate 11 through the substrate 11, wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing is conducted by photonic crystal filter 12 and a reflection film 13.
