A signal detection method in a single carrier FDMA(Frequency Division Multiple Access) MIMO system and an apparatus thereof are provided to enhance the interference cancellation performance and reduce the delay time, thereby obtaining the similar performance as having the lower complexity in comparison with the general ML. A signal detection apparatus of the receiving side in a single carrier FDMA MIMO system comprises an MMSE receiver(209), IDFT units(211, 213) and an ML(Maximum Likelihood) receiver(215). By using a channel estimation value, the MMSE receiver separates a multi-user signal received through a multi-antenna. The IDFT units perform the IDFT(Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform) for the separated user signals. The ML receiver calculates the Euclidean distance of symbols which can be transmitted in each user signal, and then selects a symbol having the minimum distance.
