PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a catalyst for a water gas shift reaction, which is inexpensive, lowers little in CO conversion as a space velocity increases, and is resistant to deterioration even after repeated oxidation and reduction. SOLUTION: This catalyst comprises a carrier containing zinc aluminum compound oxide, catalyst particles carried by the support and containing copper, and cocatalyst particles containing at least one cocatalyst element selected from an alkali metal element and an alkaline earth metal element.
