<p>A traction affording device (1, 33) for attachment to a vehicle tire is provided, the device being of the type operatively comprising a plurality of angularly spaced tread engaging members (6, 31, 40) extending transverse to the circumference of a tire tread. The device comprises an attachment assembly including at least three generally equally angularly spaced radially extending arms (3, 28, 35) having inner (4, 35) and outer ends (5, 36) with the radially inner ends being interconnected optionally by way of a base. The radially outer ends of the arms are each operatively associated with a transverse tread engaging member. The effective length of at least one, and typically all of said arms, is adjustable by means (13,14) for urging the outer end of such arm radially inwards towards the other tread engaging members to operatively cause frictional engagement between all of the tread engaging members and the tread of an associated tire (18, 33).</p> |
