<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sugar and ethanol, capable of covering approximately all of energy which is consumed in processes for producing the sugar and the ethanol by energy which is obtained by burning strained lees from sugar cane, without causing weight loss of the sugar. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing sugar and a useful material includes (a) a process for forming a squeezed juice and the strained lees out of the sugar cane, (b) a process for forming the sugar and molasses out of the squeezed juice and (c) a process for producing the energy and the useful substance by using the squeezed juice, the molasses and the strained lees obtained in the processes (a) and (b) as raw materials, wherein a cane stem part of the sugar cane contains a fibrous material in an amount of ≥15 wt%, a dry matter yield per unit area is not less than 40 t/ha/year, and not less than 90% of the energy which is required in all of the processes in the method is obtained from the energy which is obtained by burning the strained lees. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
