<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device in which the thickness of a liquid crystal, through which light is transmitted, in a reflective display mode and in a transmissive display mode is uniform, and of which the display quality is high in both display modes. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of switching elements 10 are formed on the liquid crystal layer side of a substrate 2. The switching elements are covered with an insulating film 20. A plurality of light reflecting pixel electrodes 11 electrically connected with the switching elements are formed on the insulating film. On the other hand, apertures 23 are formed on at least a part of the pixel electrodes, recessions 22 are formed on the insulating film placed under the apertures, a transparent electrode 19 electrically connected with the switching elements is formed on the bottom side of the recessions, and the liquid crystal existing between the substrates is introduced into the recessions. Consequently the thickness of the liquid crystal in the recession forming region and that in the pixel electrode forming region respectively have values different from each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
