PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tactile display device which enables a visually handicapped person to use image information alone. SOLUTION: The tactile display device has a recording medium 1 where image data for projected and recessed display of image information and index item data classified by items so that they can be collated with the image data for projected and recessed display are recorded, a data read/transfer part 2 which reads and transfers the image data for projected and recessed display and index item data recorded on the recording medium 1, and an operation part 3 for retrieving index item data recorded on the recording medium 1. Further, the tactile display device has a voice generation part 4 which vocally indicates the contents of the index item data transferred from the data read/transfer part 2 according to the index item data retrieved by the operation part 3, and a tactile image display part 5 which moves up and down a plurality of pins corresponding to the contents of the image data for projected and recessed display inputted from the data read/transfer part 2 in response to calling operation done at the operation part 3 according to the index item of the index item data reproduced by the voice generation part 4.
