A block copolymer comprising a poly(ethylene glycol) segment and a poly(amino acid derivative) segment having at least one specified type of amine residue in its side chain. Further, there is provided a polyion complex produced from the block copolymer and a polynucleotide, etc. This block copolymer is useful as an in vivo delivery carrier for active substances such as DNA.
