PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read apparatus which can accurately update address book data registered therein. SOLUTION: When an update time that is stored in an update time storage part 46 arrives, a data acquisition part 47 performs communication connection processing with a host PC 9, and when reception of the address book data stored in the address book data storage part 80 of the host PC 9 is started, a data update part 50 simultaneously writes the address book data received by the data acquisition part 47 in a temporary storage part 48. When the end code of the address book data is not detected by the data acquisition part 47, the data update part 50 judges that all the address book data could not be received, and does not update address book data stored in an address book data storage part 49 with the address book data stored in the temporary storage part 48.
