PURPOSE: A laundry amount-sensing method of a washing machine is provided to exactly detect the amount of the laundry and to shorten the laundry amount-sensing time by quickly stopping a motor by controlling the operation of the motor according to the number change rate of pulses generated by the surplus power of the motor when the motor is powered off. CONSTITUTION: A laundry amount-sensing method of a washing machine is composed of steps for detecting the amount of the laundry according to the number of pulses generated in turning off a motor at the same time as turning on/off the motor to rotate in one direction for set times(S1,S2,S3); deciding if the motor is to be braked or not by the number change rate of the pulses generated from the motor as the time passes by in turning off the motor; braking the motor by turning on/off the motor to rotate in the opposite direction after sensing the amount of the laundry if the motor is determined to brake(S8,S9); and turning on/off the motor for the set times to rotate reverse the motor after braking the motor and sensing the amount of the laundry according to the number of the pulses generated in turning off the motor(S10,S11,S12). |
