PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which enables compensation of gamma characteristics of a liquid crystal varying dependently upon a temperature. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, one field of a digitized image signal is constituted of a plurality of sub-fields in order to suppress the occurrence of a moving image false outline when the image signal is applied to a liquid crystal display part having a plurality of pixels arranged like a matrix to perform display, and the sub-fields are selectively turned on or off in accordance with the arrangement order to display an image based on the image signal. The liquid crystal display device is provided with a temperature detection part 30 for detecting the temperature of a liquid crystal display part 4 and a sub-field period control part 28 which variably controls periods of partial sub-fields out of the plurality of sub-fields so as to compensate the change of gamma characteristics of the liquid crystal display part in accordance with the detection value of the temperature detection part.
