<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a differential drive type semiconductor optical modulator with which an excellent optical modulation wave form is obtained with a high extinction ratio and a modulation frequency band is improved to a large extent. <P>SOLUTION: The differential drive type semiconductor optical modulator is constructed with a differential drive circuit 20 having output pads 22, 24 to output a pair of differential signals Sa, Sb, a transmission line substrate 30 having transmission lines 32, 34 connected to the output pads 22, 24 and ground lines 31, 33, 35, semiconductor modulation elements 41, 42 mounted on the transmission line substrate 30 and so on. The semiconductor modulation elements 41, 42 are disposed in series along the identical optical axis. Terminating resistances R1, R2 connected to terminals of the transmission lines 32, 34 and inductances 32s, 34s between the semiconductor modulation elements 41, 42 and the terminating resistances R1, R2 are mounted on the transmission line substrate 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
