A string instrument, such as a guitar, is provided with a plurality of leg members for holding the strings of the instrument, and a plurality of rotatable units having eccentrically mounted rotatable members for engaging the leg members so as to cause the strings to be moved and thereby tuned. The instrument also comprises a single one piece steel chassis extending between opposite ends of the guitar base so as to provide the same with enhanced rigidity.
