PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulse wave measuring apparatus which can obtain an optimum pressing force for the pressure sensor. SOLUTION: The pulse wave measuring apparatus extracts the direct current components based on the pressure values obtained from the pressure sensor (S113) to determine the pressing force of the pressure cuff to be the optimum pressure as given when the direct current components are stabilized. After the determination of the optimum pressing force, the direct current components obtained from the pressure sensor are monitored to see whether they are optimum or not (S119) to adjust the pressures (S117). Whether or not the pressing force of the pressure cuff is optimum is determined by judging the sharpness of the pulse waveform in the leading edge and the distortion of the waveform (S121 and S123) to further adjust the pressures (S117).
