PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of measuring simply and accurately the cation demand of organic waste water or sludge containing many inorganics. SOLUTION: This cation demand measuring agent of the organic waste water or the sludge comprises a cationic polymer having a visible light absorbing group. Preferably, the cationic polymer comprises a polymer shown by formula (1) in the cation demand measuring agent. In formula (1), m, n and o are integers satisfying the following formulas (1)-(3).
