PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably read an image by the use of a pattern attached to a roller. SOLUTION: The transparent rotating roller 29 provided in a fingerprint reading part 20 is attached with the prescribed pattern on the peripheral face over one circumference. An image of a test object contacted with the transparent rotating roller is read together with the pattern attached to the transparent rotating roller by a one-dimensional imaging element 24 comprising a plurality of imaging elements. A CPU 10 executes a correcting data production process, sets a correcting reference value to each of the imaging elements on the basis of a rotation-detecting image corresponding to a portion of the read pattern, and corrects the rotation-detecting image on the basis of the reference value. The CPU 10 decides taking-in timing of the read image on the basis of a change of the corrected rotation-detecting image by image taking-in timing decision processing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
