PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoder device for easily setting the encoder address of a plurality of encoder devices connected to a bus as an arbitrary encoder address, and provide a robot system using this encoder device. SOLUTION: A plurality of encoder devices are attached to a robot system. In this case, an encoder identification code 7b such as the manufacture number of the encoder device is preliminarily stored in a non-volatile memory 7 of a new encoder device. After the encoder device is connected to a bus 8, an external controller part 9 transmits the encoder identification code 7b and an encoder address 7a to be set to the bus 8 by using an encoder address setting command 21b.
