PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of an electrostatic precipitator and to reduce back-corona discharge.

SOLUTION: A source of manganese of an amount sufficient to improve the efficiency of the electrostatic precipitator is added to a fuel, combustion air, and combustion exhaust. Further, a source of manganese of an amount sufficient to reduce the back-corona discharge of the electrostatic precipitator is added to the combustion air and the combustion exhaust.
