PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric transformer whose height can be reduced, and whose characteristics equivalent to a two-layer laminate structure can be obtained without using any laminating technology. SOLUTION: In this piezoelectric transformer where cylindrical piezoelectric ceramic is equipped with input/output electrodes, the cross-section of the cylindrical piezoelectric ceramic is shaped like an ellipse, and the surface/back faces of one edge side which is about half the full length are formed with an input electrode, and the end face of the other edge side is formed with an output electrode. The rate of the minor axis (thickness) and the major axis (width) of the ellipse is desirably set so as to be at least 2 in a 1/2λmode, and at least 4 in anλmode. In this case, the inside is made hollow so that the effects of heat radiating effects (heating suppression) can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
