The valve has a spindle, which projects from the appliance when fitted and has a grip fastened to it. A part (4) is pushed over the valve during fitting, to determine the required projection (5) of the spindle (2) relative to the surface (30) of the appliance (3). The part has a contact face (40) for a spindle end face (20), and a second contact face (41) offset relative to it dependent upon the projection. The part is bracket-shaped and is fabricated from flat material, e.g. plastic, steel, or is a zinc die cast part.
