<p>A route information transmitting method for correctly communicating a recommended route or guide route with an irreducible minimum amount of data to the receiving side. The transmitting side arithmetically processing position data on locations along a route to convert the data into data including statistical deviation, encodes the data into variable length codes, and provides the thus produced compressed data to the receiving side who has requested information on the route. The receiving side decodes the compressed data, restores the position data, and specifies the route by map matching. Thus, route information can be correctly transmitted with a small amount of data.</p> |
