PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a planar optical waveguide of which the manufacturing process is simple and any shape of core can easily be formed. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing a planar optical waveguide capable of easily forming any shape of core provided with a clad arranged on the core and its periphery on a substrate 1, while moving a material supply nozzle 10 consisting of two clad material supply nozzles 11, 11 arranged in parallel for applying clad materials and a core material supply nozzle 12 for applying a core material or the substrate 1, a core material 3 is applied from the core material supply nozzle 12 so that both side faces of the core material 3 is covered with a clad material 4 on the substrate 1, and at the same time, at least the process for applying the clad material 4 from the clad material supply nozzles 11, 11 is performed.
