PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of a conventional similarity computing method, by which real-time image search in a large-scale image database can be hardly provided because of multiplication included in the method and of requiring a high computing load, and of similarity determination using color information prone to low-accuracy and erroneous detection. SOLUTION: This image search system 100 includes a parameter computing means 115 for computing a first characteristic parameter group including local characteristics, which characterizes a query image, of an image, a similarity computing means 120 for computing a similarity, a determining means 125 for determining whether the query image is identical with or similar to a searched image or not, and an image database 130 for storing the searched images and a second characteristic parameter group characterizing them.
