PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip NTC thermistor element which has a light weight, can easily realize a desired temperature characteristic of resistance, and is excellent in productivity and in which breakage or cracking hardly occurs even when external forces are applied, and to provide a method of manufacturing the thermistor element. SOLUTION: First and second external electrodes 3 and 4 are formed on the external surface of an elemental thermistor body 2 formed by molding a composition containing a polymer, a conductive agent, and ceramic power having a negative temperature characteristic of resistance. The method of manufacturing the chip NTC thermistor element includes a step of obtaining a thermistor wafer by molding the chip NTC thermistor element 1 and the composition containing the polymer, conductive agent, and ceramic powder showing the negative temperature characteristic of resistance; a step of forming electrodes on both main surfaces of the thermistor wafer; and a step of obtaining individual chip NTC thermistor elements by cutting the thermistor wafer in the direction of the thickness.
