PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera capable of increasing the number of frames which can be continuously photographed as maintaining snapshot nature. SOLUTION: Image data of a first frame obtained by photography are converted into luminance/color difference data (YC data) and recorded in an internal memory. Compression processing is performed to the YC data and the YC data are recorded in a free area in the internal memory. When a shutter operation is performed during the compression processing, photographic processing of a second frame is performed by interrupting the compression processing of the YC data of the first frame and the obtained YC data are recorded in the free area of the internal memory. After that, the compression processing of the YC data of the first frame is restarted. When the compression processing is completed, the YC data of the first frame are erased.
