A method of modifying a production profile in a producing well includes the steps of sensing a flow characteristic from sensors 202 located on a sand screen within the well, and motivating an actuation system to reconfigure the flow area through the screen. In a preferred embodiment, motivating the actuator can take the form of hydraulically actuating a positionable sleeve 208, the sleeve slidable over a port 214 in an inner mandrel 120 of the sand screen.
