PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave (SAW) device small in size and high in airtightness, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A cap for sealing a SAW element 30 is composed of a metal cap 40. The metal cap 40 includes a flange 41 in its adhesive portion, which is adhered to a wiring board 10 by glass or metal wax or an adhesives. An inner dimension of the metal cap 40 is made larger than the SAW element 40 within 150μm in a cross section A-A'. Besides, four corners of an inner surface of the metal cap 40 in the same cross section are rounded within a diameter 75μm. Further, a corner formed from an upper surface and a side surface in the same inner surface is rounded within 50μm.
